Cranberry Sauce

Usual Ingredients

12-ounce bag of fresh or thawed frozen cranberries
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 water
Squirt of lemon or orange juice

2022 Ingredients
12-ounce bag of fresh or thawed frozen cranberries
1 water
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon Kosher salt
2 cardamom pods, crushed
1 whole clove

Directions

1. Place the cranberries, water, and sugar in a small saucepan and stir to combine.
2. Cook until sugar is entirely melted and cranberries begin to burst. Stir and squirt the lemon or orange juice. Cook for two or three minutes longer, and turn off the heat, cover the pan and allow to cool.
3. Store in the fridge until needed.

Notes

  • There is no need to defrost frozen cranberries before cooking.
  • Remove the sauce from the stove once a few cranberries burst. The ones that remain whole add texture to the sauce.
  • The sauce can be made one week in advance.
  • If the sauce doesn't set after chilling, simmer it, let it cool and chill.
